More Power! 01/07/2016

In cooperation with Thomas Krenn and Suse we're taking part in project to evaluate OpenPOWER servers.

The goal of this project is to show the power of the actual IBM PPC processors. While the most server and desktop machines nowadays run Intel or intel-compatible processors IBM still sticks to its POWER processors. In the server segment more and more systems are now switching to PPC, not least due to the raw power of up to 96 threads per processor and the huge L3 and L4 caches.

Our focus will be on virtualization, due to our infrastructure also benefiting greatly from virtualization. We had no PPC system in house for a long time so we're pretty excited about the results and how good the servers perform. Thanks to Thomas Krenn who made the servers available for us.
