Climate change impacts IT industry and data centres
Climate change and its effects are everywhere.
The IT sector is also challenged to address climate change and the demands of the energy transition, and to make its contribution to the success of the digital transformation. It is important to maximise the use of renewable energy for the more efficient operation of hardware, data networks, storage and cooling technologies, and to combine them in synergy.
Data centre operators in particular are becoming increasingly aware of how climate change affects their systems. The focus is on reducing energy consumption and the associated cost savings and environmental impact. In Switzerland, many data centre operators have long recognised the need for action.
The physical security of all facilities and IT components, as well as the highest possible security of all data, is a top priority.
In particular, the uncompromising physical security of the underground data centres guarantees the stability of the infrastructure and thus the highest possible system availability and reliability.
A combination of strict and continuous monitoring routines, biometric access control, system and video surveillance completes the physical security framework.
Whether system or server components of the various ALPEIN software products, customer data of the SWISS SECURIUM® or PassSecurium™ product users, the modern underground data centre offers uncompromising security and the certainty that the operator keeps pace with all innovations and developments in the IT sector as well as with the requirements of climate change.
The greatest possible exclusion of environmental influences makes underground data centres a "big hit". Damaging environmental influences, e.g. due to extreme weather events as well as armed conflicts or attacks on the so-called critical infrastructure, hardly affect bunker systems and never have the destructive effects as in buildings above ground.
This means that ALPEIN Software is in the best possible position with an underground data centre in a bunker, especially if the effects of climate change are expected to become more apparent in the future or if there are general supply shortages of water or electricity.
Sustainability and energy efficiency come full circle. Largely free of heat, especially in daily operation, the underground data centre allows for moderate energy consumption, thanks to cost-effective cooling systems.
ALPEIN Software SWISS AG is hosting its data in the so-called "Stollen Luzern" data centre, owned by "ewl energie wasser Luzern Holding", the leading energy service provider in the Lucerne region. The "Stollen Luzern" is one of the most environmentally friendly data centres in Switzerland and boasts the highest energy efficiency thanks to the use of the latest DCIM technologies. CO2-neutral cooling, i.e. a stable supply of cooling energy without additional energy input, is ensured by using water from Lake Lucerne.
Build a protective wall around your company together with ALPEIN Software SWISS AG:
Rely on optimally secured hardware and software equipment in the event of cyber attacks from the network.
Benefit from the secure data storage in the bunker with efficient security management.
Leave the management of all efforts regarding the energy transition, digitalisation, climate protection and systemic risk management to ALPEIN Software and the "Stollen Luzern".
The security experts at ALPEIN Software SWISS AG will be happy to advise you at any time on the subject of data centres and all security-related questions! Please don't hesitate to contact us.
